It is heartwarming that independent booksellers are able to make it in this world of gigantic bookstores. Independents have a special dare I say independentness about them. They are warm and welcoming with a lure all of their own. A personal touch is felt in each, from Seattle to Maine, no two are the same. Certainly not the cookie cutter of the giants. Despite this stumbling economy many have survived and hopefully have flourished, thanks to the support of local city and town people and the lovers of small independent bookstores who are travelling through on vacation. The American Booksellers Association is a great way to find an indie bookseller in your area as well as news about the industry and excellent information on opening your own bookstore. Many not only have local author’s signing, but poetry reading as well as children’s storytelling. I encourage you to walk back in time and get the local flavor of your town by strolling into an indie bookstore.
